Team Leadership

  • Co-chairs: Robert Duchemin and Bill Bode
  • Webmaster/Communications: Rich Leon
  • Communications (other than web): Ileen Carter

Process

  • Elisabeth will look at UUFBR’s ByLaws and policies to see if there is mention of green policies. There may be policies for using dishes in kitchen and requiring native plantings.
  • Green Sanctuary Charter was discussed. Robert would like to present the Charter to the Board when it is prepared.
  • Rich will bring paper copies of a Charter draft to the next meeting for review and revision.

Communication with the Congregation about Green Sanctuary

  • The October 22nd meeting will be open to anyone interested. Rich will post the meeting information on the website. Jan will ask Lynn to post in Google Calendar, put in Chalice Notes, and mention it in the Unicorn.
  • Elisabeth will buy green ribbon for wearing on Sunday. Martha will bring stickers to go on the ribbons.
  • Green Table during coffee hour first Sunday of November and December. Elisabeth will bring a green table cover on November 3rd. Aaron will staff the table on December 1st. Purposes of the table are to give people information about the Green Sanctuary Process, and to find out what projects people are interested in doing.
  • Elisabeth will ask Lynn if Green Sanctuary Team can have one face of one of the kiosks. If not, she will ask if it is possible to have a board hanging (to be cleared with Anjali).
  • Elisabeth will get a map of Boca Raton to determine what the surrounding neighborhoods are. There is a Boca Green Alliance Sustainable Neighborhood competition/initiative.
  • Martha is working with the 6th and 7th grade and Meredith is teaching the young children. They can possibly work on a presentation for the congregation to learn about the Green Sanctuary Process. Martha will take an informal poll to see how many of the students are interested in working on outside environmental projects.
  • Martha is willing to crunch numbers.

Other Discussions

  • Sabine is interested in Green Sanctuary.
  • Elisabeth would like UUFBR to continue with native landscaping, and avoidance of herbicides. She is willing to do individual assessments for people’s yards.
  • There was a discussion of the temperature at which the thermostats are set at UUFBR, properties of windows, etc. that will be addressed in the energy assessment.
  • Robert thinks there should be an eating green initiative.
  • Aaron’s contact number for a solar industry contact was forwarded to Jeff Crews. Elisabeth’s neighbor, Mike Vergona, does solar installations. Elisabeth took a course on how to be a photovoltaic installer.
