The monthly topics are set by the group members in September and are sent in the reminder invitation during the week before the 2nd Sunday of each month by the group coordinator, Mary Wikensheimer. You can join the group by requesting an invitation from Mary: plumbago@bellsouth.net

We are going to support the BF ELF program, which enables foster care children to experience the joy of giving gifts. You can read more about the program at the Best Foot Forward home page, in the middle.

Our Angel Express process will be a little different for BFF. Instead of physically buying gifts to bring into UUFBR as we are doing for AVDA and Family Promise, we will be going on-line to Amazon; where the BFF Wish List items are listed, and buying them. The gifts will be mailed directly to BFF. It works just like a gift registry, so once the gift is purchased, it will no longer show on the list… so anything you see is still waiting and available for you to buy!

You will still need to take an ‘Angel Express Card’ – which is marked BFF, and complete the stub with you name and number (or email Karen at kscorbin@comcast.net, to let her know you are going to purchase gifts for the BF Elf Program)

The gifts will need to be purchased no later than December 2nd. If you have an Amazon Prime account, please do the free two-day shipping AND use AmazonSmile while you shop to support UUFBR in the process (Go to the UUFBR ‘When you Shop’ page for more details).

The meeting came to order at 7:20pm. Present were: Robert Duchemin, Seyril Siegel, Jan Booher and Linda Harmon.

The remaining project that we must complete in order to submit our application for Green Sanctuary Status is the Osias Carpet campaign.

Coffee and Chocolate Sales Report (Robert Duchemin and Linda Harmon)

We have made approximately $500 on coffee and chocolate sales. There was a summer break, but sales will resume in November for holiday sales. Some unsold coffee inventory will be donated to UUFBR’s coffee hour.

Rising Together Environmental Justice Project (Jan Booher)

The field work is finished for this Environmentl Justice Project and the www.ReACTToolkit.net site is active. More content will continue to be added to the site. The Southeast Florida Climate Change Compact’s Leadership Summit scheduled for October 5th and 6th was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew. A Poster about the Rising Together EJ project was accepted for the juried Poster Session.

Osias Carpet Campaign:

The Endowment Committee decided not to provide matching funds to replace the carpet in Osias Hall.

The Carpet Campaign will begin November 1, 2016.

The cost for a 2ft x 2ft tile will be $40, or in quantity, at reduced prices. Linda Harmon will create a pricing schedule. The pricing will cover labor, maintenance, 3 years of warranty compliant maintenance, and the campaign expenses (including a plaque to recognize donors).

Robert Duchemin and Seyril Siegel will speak to Donna Musial to see if she can help with a rendering of Osias with differing carpet samples and a rendering of the room with squares that can be colored in, or donor’s names can be inserted, as the campaign progresses.

The meeting was adjourned at 9pm.

The meeting was called to order at 7pm. Present were: Robert Duchemin, Jan Booher, and Bill Bode

CARPET

The carpet installation bids were reviewed. It is clear that carpeting the Sanctuary is more than double the cost of carpeting Osias Hall, and it is more complex.

Questions from the committee for the installing companies:

Do any of the 3 installers recycle the carpet?

Is the adhesive low VOC and/or LEED recommended?

Why is the Sanctuary so expensive to carpet given the exceptions and limitations noted in the bids.

If we treat the carpet with Scotchgard or a recommended sealing product will the warranty be valid? Additionally, what is the cost for us to treat the carpet and for a professional to treat the carpet. Capitol’s quote states: “4) Final protection of finished work to be by others.” What kind of ‘protection’ are we planning? Who is going to apply it? (e.g. Does the carpet come pretreated with ScotchGuard? If not, would we do it & when in the process? Is there something better than ScotchGuard?)

Do the prices from the installers include 10 percent additional tiles? Are we ordering a number of extra 24×24 carpet squares? (i.e. for replacing irreparably damaged spots, long after the selected pattern is no longer available.) If so, how many? If not, can we? And at what price each? Adhesive?

What is the maintenance plan for the carpet once it is installed. How long must this carpet be in place before it could be vacuumed? Shampooed?

Is there a visualization tool available from any of these installers that shows the carpet we picked in our room?

Question from the committee for the UUFBR Board after we prepare a comparison chart is:

Will the Board give the GSC committee permission to:

oversee the Osias carpet funding campaign that includes a UUFBR Endowment Committee Matching Grant proposal and a buy-a-carpet-tile-square fund raising campaign

have carpet installed in Osias Hall

Action Item: Jan will ask Linda if she is willing to prepare a spreadsheet comparing the bids for a presentation to the UUFBR board.

LWV FILM SERIES ON CLIMATE CHANGE

After a discussion of participation in a climate change film series, the GSC would like to meet with Mary.

Action Item: Bill will invite Mary (LWV) to the August 2nd GSC meeting.

AUGUST 7th GSC SERVICE

Jan should prepare very short video clips that show: training for Outreach Leaders, community outreach, and an oral history clip.

Jan will speak with Marjorie about her presentation: content, length.

Jan will circulate a draft Powerpoint for review before th next GSC meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.
