hope this finds you well.

According to this year’s list, the topic for May is Beauty.

Usually, before each meeting, I go surfing the web or flipping through some books and I am able to find a poem or quote or short video that gives us a starting point on the topic.

This time, the best selection I found was from the Tapestry of Faith: Love Surrounds Us: A Program on the UU Principles and Beloved Community for Grades K-1,
hosted on the UUA website. Operating in the spirit of “All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, I figure it doesn’t hurt to review some of this stuff. This one tells us the story of the UU Flower ceremony. https://www.uua.org/re/tapestry/children/lovesurrounds/session7/flower-ceremony
There was also a page to print out and color, if you are so moved. https://www.uua.org/sites/live-new.uua.org/files/k1art_lsu7_flower_ceremony_gray.pdf

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,

Mary

Hello, all,

hope this finds you well.

According to this year’s list, the topic for April is Awakening.

Usually, before each meeting, I go surfing the web or flipping through some books and I am able to find a poem or quote or short video that gives us a starting point on the topic.

This time, the best short form I found was from the Soul Matters website that was the original source of this years list of topics.

Awakening The path of untangling yourself from what you’ve been taught
Is this all there is?

There are some longer discussions, such as “Shapers of Change” (https://www.uua.org/braverwiser/shapers-change) by Martha Durkee-Neuman. Another is the interview with Wesley Botham by Ted Resnikoff (https://www.uua.org/blueboat/voices/a-spiritual-awakening).

And there is the article from UUWorld issue of Spring 2018 by Michael Hornsby, called “Choosing A Stubborn Love”. A rather unsettling piece, but one we probably all should read.

Of course, there are a ton of YouTube videos about Kundalini Awakening, but that may be a focus for the advanced yoga practitioners amongst us. At least I think so.

Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday,

Mary

Hello, all,

hope this finds you well.

According to this year’s list, the topic for March is Faith.

Usually, before each meeting, I go surfing the web or flipping through some books and I am able to find a poem or quote or short video that gives us a starting point on the topic.

This month I have a definition from Merriam-Webster:

(Entry 1 of 2)
1a : allegiance to duty or a person : loyalty (lost faith in the company’s president)
1b(1) : fidelity to one’s promises
(2) : sincerity of intentions (acted in good faith)
2a(1) : belief and trust in and loyalty to God
(2) : belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion
2b(1) : firm belief in something for which there is no proof (clinging to the faith that her missing son would one day return)
(2) : complete trust
3 : something that is believed especially with strong conviction especially : a system of religious beliefs (the Protestant faith)

And I found a(n) article/sermon by the Rev. Doctor Tony Larsen: Why You Should Not Be A Unitarian Universalist (https://urbigenous.net/library/why_not_unitarian.html) It’s a little long, and not so much about faith per se, but does cover a lot of what he thinks about our beliefs.

It will be great to see each other again, if only on Zoom.

This month I have failed. Everything that I found was long, complex, and detailed. There was only a distant similarity between authors. Most articles talked about setting up committees or communities or RE programs to address the topic.
