Community Candlelight Election Eve Vigil

A candlelight Vigil for Democracy will be a nonpartisan, community-centered gathering. Held outdoors on the UUFBR labyrinth on Election Eve, this vigil will include music, meditation, responsive readings, multifaith prayers, and a collective pledge to uphold the democratic principles and process, and the constitutional rights that support our common life.

Held outdoors on the UUFBR labyrinth on Election Eve, this vigil will provide an opportunity for participants to pause, center themselves, and gather in covenant with one another during a significant moment in our civic life. The labyrinth setting will offer a meaningful space for contemplation, grounding, and spiritual reflection as participants come together to acknowledge the hopes, concerns, and responsibilities that accompany our shared democratic journey.

Through meditation, shared singing, responsive readings, multifaith prayers, reflection, and a collective pledge to uphold the democratic principles and constitutional rights that support our common life, participants will affirm the values of dignity, freedom, justice, pluralism, and respect for all people. The vigil will create an “safe space” — an intentional circle where people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs can come together in a spirit of compassion, community, and mutual respect.

This gathering recognizes that democracy is sustained not only through elections, but through the ongoing practice of compassion, active participation, listening across differences, and commitment to the well-being of our wider community. The vigil offers a spiritual and communal response to the uncertainty and anxiety that often accompany elections by creating a sacred space for hope, connection, and civic harmony.

In keeping with Unitarian Universalist traditions of faith in action, this event invites members, friends, and neighbors to witness together for the shared work of building a more just, peaceful, and compassionate world.
